Does Your Vacuum Pump Lose Vacuum When It Gets Hot?

A circular vacuum pump radiator keeps the sealing and lubricating oil of a vacuum pump at the right temperature. Vacuum pump oil does two jobs at once: it seals the clearances inside the pump and lubricates the moving parts. Both jobs depend on the oil staying within its temperature range.

How It Works

  1. Hot oil from the vacuum pump enters the radiator.
  2. The oil flows through the plate-fin core, and heat transfers to the fins.
  3. A fan blows air across the fins (air-cooled) or water flows through adjacent passages (water-cooled).
  4. The cooled oil returns to the pump at the right temperature, keeping vacuum stable.

Why does a vacuum pump need a radiator?

Vacuum pump oil both seals and lubricates the pump. If it runs too hot, sealing performance drops and the pump cannot hold vacuum. A radiator keeps the oil at the right temperature.
